Welcome to Your Fall Semester!
My son, Alex, just started his new school year here in Woodford County. For kids his age, back to school time is met with mixed emotions. Summer fun is ending and it’s time to buckle down. But it’s also a time of anticipation and excitement of what a new school year can bring. It’s not so different for college students.
A new semester, especially if it’s your first one, can be a lot of things all rolled into one – new experiences, new faculty, new friends, new challenges and new anxieties. I know some of our students have concerns about succeeding in college. Here’s what those students need to know: We will do everything in our power to help you achieve your college dreams.
The people at your college are there for you. The faculty and staff, the leadership and our college president are all there to teach, mentor and guide you. And guess what—they love doing it! Don’t be afraid to reach out and ask for help if you need it.
Also, try to take advantage of the fun things your college offers, like clubs and organizations, student government, cook-outs and other events.
Someone once told me that college is whatever you want it to be. I think that’s true. You have the power to make your time in college one of the best times of your life. You will learn more than you ever thought you could and maybe make lifelong friends in the process.
For students who work or are caregivers, this may sound idealistic because I know you have a lot on your plate. But college can, and will, change your life. You’ve made the right decision for yourself and your family.
So, welcome everyone and remember: You’ve Got This!
