Our History

When the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) was created in 1998, under the Kentucky Postsecondary Education Improvement Act (House Bill 1), the main goal was to give Kentuckians easier, more affordable access to higher education. 

By combining the 14 community colleges of the University of Kentucky and the 15 technical institutes in the Kentucky Workforce Development cabinet under a new system, KCTCS became the state's ninth, unique public institution.
