Celebrating Community College: The Power of a Unified System
What is KCTCS?
The Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) is a statewide network of 16 community college locations throughout Kentucky. The system was established in 1997 by the Kentucky General Assembly to provide affordable and accessible education and training programs for the citizens of Kentucky.
Credential Options
KCTCS offers more than 700 credential options from certificates to associate degrees, in various fields such as health care, information technology, business administration, engineering, education, and more. The community college system is also committed to providing workforce development and training programs in partnership with local businesses and industries to address the state's workforce needs and those looking for a career change.
Accessible Education
KCTCS aims to make education accessible to all Kentuckians by offering flexible scheduling, affordable tuition rates, and transferable credits to four-year universities. The community college system also provides support services such as academic advising, tutoring, and career counseling to help students succeed in their educational pursuits.
Largest Provider of Postsecondary Education
KCTCS is renowned throughout the state for offering affordable and quality education to students of diverse backgrounds. With over 70 campuses across 16 colleges, KCTCS is the largest provider of higher education in the state. It offers degrees, diplomas, and certificates in over 700 programs and courses, which cater to the needs of students looking to further their education, transfer opportunities, or acquire a certain skill set.
Financial Aid Options
KCTCS understands the importance of providing financial aid opportunities to its students. KCTCS actively participates in various federal and state financial aid programs, including grants, scholarships, and loans. Additionally, they offer institutional aid programs to help offset the cost of tuition, fees, and books.
Work Ready Kentucky Scholarship
KCTCS is an authorized provider of the Work Ready Kentucky Scholarship, an initiative to help Kentuckians who have not yet earned an associate degree afford an industry-recognized certificate or diploma. This program is designed to provide financial assistance to those who wish to gain advanced skills and knowledge through various technical programs.
The WRKS program covers tuition costs, fees, and some associated costs for eligible students. The scholarship is available to individuals who are Kentucky residents, have graduated from high school or earned a GED, and have not yet completed an associate degree. The program offers students a choice of over 350 approved programs at one of Kentucky's community and technical colleges or through one of the University of Kentucky's regional campuses.
The WRKS program is a great opportunity for Kentuckians who want to develop their skills and advance their careers. With industry-recognized certificates and diplomas in high-demand fields, graduates will be well-positioned to secure good-paying jobs and contribute to the state's economy.
Inclusion and Belonging
KCTCS is known for providing a student-focused environment that is inclusive and supportive. The student population receives personal attention from faculty, who are experts in their respective fields, and benefit from the resources and services provided by the college system. The community college system is dedicated to student success in their academic and career goals by providing a range of student services like advising, counseling, and career services.
Economic Value
Promoting economic growth and development throughout Kentucky is a top priority at KCTCS. A unified system creates value for taxpayers. For instance, for every $1 taxpayers invest in KCTCS the return on investment is $3.60, according to a study by Emsi.
Workforce Education
The community college system partners with businesses, industries, and community organizations to provide workforce training and education that aligns with regional and state workforce needs. This, in turn, helps to create a skilled and qualified workforce that drives economic growth in the state, creating a win-win situation for both the students and the community.
Power of a Unified System
KCTCS is a well-established and respected higher education institution that provides excellent education and training to students while also supporting economic development through workforce training and various other initiatives. The community college system is committed to providing its diverse student body with the resources necessary to succeed in their academic and professional pursuits and is ever evolving to meet the changing demands of the workforce.
