
KCTCS board receives updates on systemwide study and positive financial audits
VERSAILLES, Ky. – The Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) Board of Regents received an update from KCTCS President Paul Czarapata about an extensive systemwide study that begins this week. The state Legislative Contract Review Committee recently approved a contract with Huron Consulting Group Education - Huron (huronconsultinggroup.com) to review the following:
- Space utilization assessment
- Academic programming optimization
- Financials and organization assessment
- Compensation and equity
- Career framework to define career paths, compensation compared to market and internal equity
“This is the most in-depth, comprehensive study ever undertaken by KCTCS,” Board of Regents Chair James Lee Stevens said. “KCTCS is coming up on its 25th anniversary, so it’s time to assess where we are and to make sure we’re still on the right path. The goal of the new study is to ensure KCTCS is equitable, agile, responsive and streamlined so that we are meeting the needs of our students and business partners statewide.”
The board also received a positive internal audit report conducted by Dean Dorton as well as an external audit report conducted by Forvis, which showed the system’s financial position remains solid.
In other business, the board:
- Approved to change the vesting period for those in the 403(b) retirement plan from five years to one year.
- Was apprised of the approval of eight new certificates.
- Bluegrass Community and Technical College – Social Media Design
- Elizabethtown Community and Technical College – Hybrid and Electrical Vehicle Technician, Tool and Die Apprentice
- Gateway Community and Technical College – Small Business Management
- Hopkinsville Community College – Mechatronics Systems Operating Technician
- Madisonville Community College – Certified Associate in Biomedical Technology Exam Preparation, Foundational Preparation for Dialysis Systems and Service Support Technician, Foundational Preparation for Radiographic Diagnostic Imaging Service and Support Technician
- Approved renaming a building at West Kentucky Community and Technical College to honor former president Barbara Veazy.
- Heard a testimonial from a former Big Sandy Community and Technical College student.
- Approved 4,818 academic credential requests between July 16 – September 30, 2022 (associate
degrees, diplomas, and certificates). These credentials include:
- 2630 candidates for certificates;
- 307 candidates for diplomas; and
- 1,881 candidates for associate degrees.
The next Board of Regents meeting is scheduled for March 23 and 24 at Bluegrass Community and Technical College in Lexington.
