KCTCS Announces Winners of TikTok Video Contest

The Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) announced the winners of its TikTok video contest. The contest, which was open to all KCTCS students, asked participants to create a video about why they chose a KCTCS college, motivations, and how college is propelling them to a better life. Students were asked to upload a video to TikTok and use the hashtags #kctcs #collegeformyworld.

Three winners were chosen. The People’s Choice winner had the most views on TikTok. KCTCS Employee Choice was selected through a judging panel of KCTCS employees based on a rubric of criteria. One entrant was selected in a random drawing.

The People’s Choice winning video, based on the most views on TikTok, was created by Emily Greenwell of Maysville Community & Technical College. Greenwell’s video, which had over 127,000 views on TikTok, talks about how she’s taken dual credit classes at MCTC and the support she’s received in her two years as a student.

The KCTCS Employee Choice winning video, selected through a panel of judges of KCTCS employees, was created by Melia Huff of Gateway Community & Technical College. Huff is a dual credit student at Gateway, earning college credits while she’s in high school. After Huff completes her education, her goal is to become a travelling nurse.

The last winner was chosen in a random drawing. This video was created by Angelena Tackett of Big Sandy Community & Technical College. Tackett’s video explained that she chose Big Sandy because the campus is close to her home, the small class sizes, and convenient class schedules.
“We were very impressed with the quality of the videos that were submitted,” said Dr. Larry Ferguson, acting KCTCS president. “But we’re even more impressed by the commitment and passion our students have to creating better lives for themselves and their families, and we are proud to support their efforts.”

The KCTCS TikTok video contest was part of the college system’s ongoing efforts to promote the value of higher education to prospective students. KCTCS offers a variety of degree and certificate programs that can prepare students for a variety of careers. For more information about KCTCS, please visit www.kctcs.edu/video-contest
