KCTCS Announces Acting BCTC President

Dr. Feeney

The Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) announced today that Dr. Greg Feeney will serve as acting Bluegrass Community and Technical College (BCTC) president effective July 1, 2023.  He is replacing Dr. Koffi Akakpo who was named president of Kentucky State University (KSU) earlier this week.

“KCTCS congratulates Dr. Akakpo on his new adventure at KSU,” said KCTC President Larry Ferguson. “He has done an outstanding job with his team in leading BCTC these past four years. As we move into transition, we have appointed Dr. Greg Feeney to serve as acting president. Dr. Feeney is a longtime proven, executive leader who will do an excellent job as we work toward initiating a national search for Dr. Akakpo’s permanent replacement this coming fall.”

Dr. Feeney currently serves as BCTC Provost.  In this role, he serves as the chief academic officer, chief student affairs officer, and provides leadership for adult education and workforce development.  Dr. Feeney has served in other administrative roles including vice president of academics and workforce development, dean of academics, dean of academic support, and assistant dean of history, languages, and social sciences at the college.  He achieved the faculty rank of full professor and has been at BCTC since 1998.

Dr. Feeney earned his doctorate, with an emphasis in interpersonal and health communication, at the University of Kentucky.  He completed his masters degree at Northern Illinois University, with an emphasis in communication theory and organizational communication.

“We are sad to see Dr. Akakpo leave, as he made an incredible impact on our college and community,” stated Dr. Feeney.  “We are fortunate his leadership will remain in Kentucky.  His commitment to student success and strengthening community partnerships is noteworthy.  I look forward to stepping into this role and working with BCTC’s incredible team to support students and the Bluegrass region. “
