In a society that demands real time, relevant and applicable continuing education, the KCTCS Office for Professional Development and Innovation (OPDI) is creating a new approach to system level professional development. This new focus provides strategically and collaboratively located regional institutes, online offerings and specific performance-based talent development academies.

We provide faculty talent development through an academy approach and models designed to engage participants with interactive, hands-on professional development experiences. Through this approach, we help develop a network of innovative leaders who will lead multiple learning experiences, identify new content and strategies for innovative practices, and identify and develop strong subject matter experts from KCTCS faculty and staff.

Key Initiatives:

Regional Institutes/Summits are designed to support employees by giving them access to high quality professional development experiences. These are generally identical in content and offered at  three different locations around the state. Topics and themes are chosen based on faculty and staff input.

Leading Educator is a performance-based learning experience that equips faculty with new approaches, innovative styles of teaching and learning, plus skills and abilities that can be applied immediately to both classroom and online instruction.

Innovative Educator is a talent development and creative thinking experience for academic and technical faculty. Each academy is a yearlong experience that focuses on helping develop innovators and  creative solutions to common challenges. Participants chose the area of focus, generate new ideas, refine those ideas and ultimately share their solutions with others in their college or across the system.

KCTCS LEAD Academy is a new initiative to train new leaders through the development of leadership skills and abilities that will help shape their futures at KCTCS colleges.

TIKI is a series of webinars, specialized talks and events focusing on Technology, Insights, Knowledge and Innovation.
